Data Umbrella, founded in December 2019, is a global community for underrepresented persons in data science. Underrepresented persons can be of any self-identified category (gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, geographic location, socioeconomic level and others).
Data Umbrella’s mission is to provide a welcoming and educational space for underrepresented persons in the fields of machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence (ML/DS/AI) with the goal of advancing their participation in the data science and open source communities.
Data Umbrella organizes online speaker series and workshops on data science and open source and curates resources on inclusive practices.
Members join the Meetup group and learn of the events through that platform. Active members join the live webinars and open source workshops, they contribute both online and offline, via GitHub and participate in Discord conversations.
All skill levels are welcome, beginners and experts. They welcome allies of any background who support their mission to join the community and share their skills and network to provide an inclusive space in the field of data science.
